Her name is Naganandini, but after she became a ‘sanyasin’ she was given the name Nandishwari Matha. She is originally from Bijapur and her father is a NEKRTC depot manager.
Nandishwari used to visit the famous Yanagundhi Matha Manikeshwari temple in Sedam taluk with her parents.
During one of these visits, she was inspired to join the temple and became a sanyasin.

Upliftment of rural youth
Nandishwari Matha has started a campaign against alcoholism and meat-eating, and has managed to change the ways of the rural youth.
She is also conducting programmes on non-violence in schools and colleges. “The youth, who are the citizens of tommorrow, need to be freed of their vices in order to build a healthy society in the future,” she reasons.
Several prizes
Nandishwari Matha, who is trained in karate and plays badminton and chess, has won several prizes in the state-level during her school and college days.
She has been reciting the ‘Adi Shakti’ mantra for 11 years and is writing a book on non-violence. The sanyasin plans to set up a yoga centre, value education centre and a cattleyard in the six-acre land belonging to the temple.
